objective: Create an app for a social cause.
This was a cross-functional team project with two graphic designers, a mechanical engineer, and an anthropology major. After brainstorming individually, we shared our ideas and moved forward with the idea deemed best for the objective which was #ShopSmall.
#ShopSmall was derived from the movement started in 2010 by American Express which encouraged people to shop locally and support small businesses on Saturdays. The purpose of the app is to help users discover and locate local establishments as well as allow those businesses to get their name on the map.
Understanding users: A short survey helped us gauge who our audience is and what they like. This data served as a reference point for features included in the architecture moving into low fidelity wireframes.
Trial Testing: Showing the low fidelity wireframes to multiple users gave insight into their initial reactions and how intuitive the design was. Having users go through a set of tasks while thinking out loud, allowed us to fix any non-user friendly aspects as well as choose best options through A/B testing.
