Objective: Design an entirely new social cause app or redesign an existing one.
The idea of a temporary housing app came from personal experience as a college student looking to sublet apartments on campus over the summer. The student community most often uses facebook groups to find this type of housing along with roommates. As competitive analysis shows that the main functionality is usually long-term housing, a focus on temporary housing meets these needs that have been overlooked by Zillow and others.
Background: SubLet's serves the young adult audience from college students to those moving around more frequently before settling down in a more permanent home. Because of this, the concept map includes user flows similar to that of social media platforms. The functionality emphasizes curated housing options and connections within the community.
user testing: The front end process of sketches, information architecture, and low fidelity wireframes in XD, formed the foundation of how users will interact with the app. User testing in these stages were crucial to understanding what is familiar and what is too far fetched for users to pick up on. Filters were the hardest feature to organize efficiently. A/B testing helped determine what made the most sense in how each filter was displayed. I learned that less clicks with all information laid out on one screen at once was much more straight forward than a set of complex tabs.
A lot of revisions on color, type, and features built up a prototyped model that meets the needs of individuals seeking temporary housing. Further exploration would include more user testing run throughs and completely building out all screens to be clickable.
